Tobias is 26 years of age and started the dual study programme "Smart Building Technologies" in autumn 2021. He tells us more about studying at the MCI in Innsbruck and the practical work phases at HELLA.
What is the dual study programme "Smart Building Technologies" about, and what do you enjoy most?
"The course is basically about the different systems interacting in modern buildings. What I enjoy most is the variety! That means, the combination of practice and theory - and that these phases are well-divided. After the challenging study phases, I can then immediately use my knowledge during the professional practice phases with HELLA."
What does this combination of theory and practice look like?
"I completed the first practical phase with HELLA with the InnovationLAB team. Robert Weitlaner, the team leader, also accompanies me through all my practical phases, and he is my first contact person during the entire study period. Robert is also like a mentor to me, and there are no rigid hierarchies! In the course of the three-year study programme, I also get an insight into the automation, product management, design, and architect service departments. This gives me a holistic overview of all the fields of building technology!"
Why did you decide on a dual study programme with HELLA?
"I chose the dual study programme with HELLA because it is "dual". It was clear to me that I wanted to stay in the region, and after five years of professional practice I didn't want to begin a full-time study programme. The employment with year-round salary is also a very important aspect! In addition to the variety of theory and practice, the topics are also very exciting. I have never really dealt with sun protection before, but it is such a versatile and important topic! Above all, I find those numerous research projects in which HELLA is involved, as well as the control and guidance of daylight very interesting."
